Warren Buffett, the billionaire who is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway is a favorite of most individual investors. He is one of the richest people in the world due to his ownership of Berkshire Hathaway stock and growth of the company. His wealth is currently over $85 billion. He is probably the most followed investors in the world due to his long-term success and simple investment philosophy. Many investors want to invest like Warren Buffett. Many small investors annually examine his portfolio adn try to emulate it. So, here are the Top 10 Stocks owned by Warren Buffett in 2019.
Below are three quotes that in my opinion summarize his investment philosophy.
“Only buy something that you’d be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years”
“Whether we’re talking about socks or stocks, I like buying quality merchandise when it is marked down”
“Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing”
Ideally, one would like to buy low at a good value and hold forever. But with that said Warren Buffett does make changes to Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio. He has added to existing positions, initiated new positions, and sold positions. Furthermore, market action causes the relative rankings between his holdings to shift. So, the portfolio is not static. It is worthwhile to examine Buffett’s portfolio periodically to see what he is doing.
At the end of Q3, 2019, the portfolio was dominated by companies categorized as banks, insurance and finance at a fair value of $96,498M out of a total fair value of $220,051M. This was followed by companies in the consumer product category and then commercial, industrial and other. There is a total of 45 holdings but approximately 66% of the total fair value was in just five companies including Apple Inc (AAPL), Bank of America Corporation (BAC), The Coca-Cola Company (KO), Wells Fargo & Company (WFC), and American Express Company (AXP). Below is the list of top 10 holdings and dollar values. Note that the dollar values are based on the form submission and not current market value.
